What Is Bio Fogging / Electrostatic Spraying?

What Is Electrostatic / Bio Fogging Disinfection?

Electrostatic spray surface cleaning is the process of spraying an electrostatically charged mist onto surfaces and objects. Electrostatic spray uses a specialized solution that is combined with air and atomized by an electrode inside the sprayer. Subsequently, the spray contains positively charged particles that are able to aggressively adhere to surfaces and objects. Because the particles in the spray are positively charged, they cling to and coat any surface they’re aimed at.

For awkwardly shaped objects or hard to reach places, cleaning staff only have to point and spray; the nature of the mist allows it to coat surfaces evenly, and envelope objects—even if the mist is only sprayed from one side. After the spray is applied, the sanitizing agent works to disinfect the covered surfaces. For this reason, electrostatic spray is an excellent solution for germ and contaminant ridden areas.

How Does Electrostatic Disinfection Work?

Electrostatic spray is electrically charged, allowing the appropriate sanitizers, mold preventatives and disinfectants to wrap around and evenly coat all types of surfaces for a more complete clean. As the chemical exits the electrostatic sprayer, it’s given a positive electrical charge. The droplets then become attracted to all negative surfaces, covering the visible area, underside and backside, with the sanitizing agent. Surfaces that are already covered will repel the spray, making the method extremely efficient.

Is Electrostatic Spray Disinfection Right For My Business?

If your facility contains rooms or areas that are sensitive to grime and germs, such as Offices, Medical Suites, R&D facilities or Clean Rooms, then yes, electrostatic spray cleaning is the best option for cleaning all the surfaces and equipment in that room. Although electrostatic spray / Bio-Fogging may sound like an aggressive method for regular commercial cleaning applications, the opposite is true.

The main features and benefits of electrostatic spray disinfection include:

  • Reduces the time it takes to cover and disinfect all surfaces and hard-to-reach places by 50% compared to conventional methods
  • Improves infection control and the spread of viruses such as Covid19, influenza, MRSA, HIV and many others
  • Applies chemicals in a more efficient, controlled manner, eliminating the dangers of overuse
  • Prevents costly financial burdens associated with contagious healthcare infections

For desktops, floors and walls that need to be absolutely spotless, electrostatic spray cleaning is the best option. The same goes for equipment and hard to reach places; if a piece of equipment is heavily trafficked, electrostatic spray cleaning in the most comprehensive way to remove germs and dirt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because the Covid-19 virus is so new, the world is still learning about it. How is it transmitted? How long will people be contagious? Can people become reinfected?  Researchers are still learning about whether heat or cold will kill the virus.  Research labs don’t have samples to test various disinfectants. This is where the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) comes in. The EPA compiled a list of disinfectants that meet the criteria to be used for COVID-19.  Disinfectants on the list have already been proven effective for disinfecting similar viruses, such as human Coronavirus. The disinfectants we use are from List N, and are effective in killing over 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, and fungi from surfaces.

The disinfectants that we use are very safe.

The main concern with these types of disinfecting products is if someone with asthma, or other breathing problems, breathes in the disinfectant while we are actually spraying it. For this reason, we only perform disinfecting services in vacant rooms.  You and your staff should not be present in the room during the time of the service. Since the disinfectant is not rinsed off, but must air-dry, we recommend not entering the area until it is dry. We will use the most effective and least bothersome treatment equipment and methods possible. Our technician can advise you specifically on when it will be safe to return.  Drying time is between 10 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the disinfecting method used.

The disinfectants that we use have low toxicity and are safe for adults, children, and pets.

Our team can disinfect all types of businesses and municipalities.

  • Office suites and meeting rooms
  • Cubicles
  • Retail stores:  interiors/store fronts/carts
  • Trucks, cabs, and other work/emergency vehicles
  • Hotels:  lobbies/common areas/guest rooms.
  • Senior care and medical facilities
  • Athletic and exercise facilities
  • Work site trailers and more!

Disinfecting should be done according to the needs and the risks in your workplace. Of course, in every setting there are items that are touched frequently and should be disinfected frequently throughout the day. These include doorknobs and door handles, light switches, and tabletops/counter-tops.

  • Remove papers and delicate items that could be damaged by moisture.
  • If there is visible dirt on surfaces, the surfaces should be cleaned with detergent, or soap and water, to prepare the area for disinfecting.
  • Make sure that electrical cords and other “trip hazards” are removed from the floor.  We want to keep our technicians safe, too!

We operate in the Metro-Detroit Area.  However, we regularly provide service throughout the state for our contracted customers.
